"Happy
Earth Day"
By Rachel Perry
Here are 10 Things You Can Do to Love the Planet
With all the buzz about global warming (and the slap-in-the-face awakening that it's not just the latest fad scare), there's a good chance that Earth Day will take on a new meaning this year and maybe even hold a little more significance than it did in years past. Yeah, it's a bit depressing that people are just now starting to care about the environment, but better late than never, right? It's not too late to reverse some of the damage and make our planet a cleaner, healthier place to live. We're going to go ahead and be cliché by encouraging you to "make Earth Day every day," but if you'd like to honor the day itself and actively participate in some of this year's Earth Day events, we've compiled a list of 10 ways you can help out over the course of Earth Day weekend (April 20 to 22).

Plant some trees
UC Green, a nonprofit organization from University City, is looking for
volunteers to help plant 45 trees for Earth Day. "We're
expecting roughly 100 to come out," says Winnie Harris of UC Green. "But from March 31 through April 22, we have tree-planting events. Last year,
we mobilized over 1000 volunteers and planted 150 trees. We have plantings
in the spring and the fall. We're giving back to the community by improving
the vitality of the environment and getting people more involved in [preserving]
the environment. There are so many benefits of trees."
The planting will be taking place regardless of the weather. Dress for
the outdoors, and plan to get dirty!

With so many different activities to choose from, hopefully you'll find a way in which you can take part in helping to ensure that the earth stays green. Happy Earth Day! We hope that you'll use it wisely.
