UC Green

Trees make great neighbors.

3000+ TREES PLANTED AND COUNTING

Our Mission

The most successful path to a greener Philadelphia is through communities empowered and motivated to work together in caring for the lands we occupy.

COOPERATIVE COMMUNITY GREENING

UC Green has been Philadelphia’s Tree Tender leader for nearly three decades.

As a Pennsylvania Horticultural Society-partnered community greening nonprofit, UC Green is the model for the regional PHS Tree Tenders program.

Over the years, UC Green has grown from sidewalk appeal projects to modeling ways to equitably increase tree canopy in the city’s most environmentally vulnerable zip codes (19143, 19104 and 19139), highlighted on the ‘Philadelphia Street Tree Planting Opportunity Map’.

We facilitate opportunities for neighbors to take agency over their natural environment, while fostering social cohesion and improving public health. This is accomplished through long-running programs like Fall & Spring plantings, Pruning Club and Tree-Cycle, plus new programs like our neighborhood Design Charrettes and more.

Since 1998, we have cooperatively planted and maintained over 4,800 trees in neighborhoods the most in need.
