Support UC Green

Welcome to our Network of Volunteer Greening Enthusiasts in West/Southwest Philadelphia!

Each year, UC Green volunteers plant and tend hundreds of street trees and enhance public green spaces contributing thousands of hours in service to the community.

We invite you to learn more about our programs and how to care for trees and gardens. We hope you will consider supporting our efforts or participating as a volunteer. Thank you for browsing our site and we hope to see you at one of our events.

The Urban Orchard: UC Green's Fall 2011 Street Tree Planting

This fall we are going to take our street tree planting one step further by planting an urban orchard! We're teaming up with the Philadelphia Orchard Project (POP) to plant fruit and nut trees along the streets of West and Southwest Philadelphia. POP works with community-based groups and volunteers to plan and plant orchards in vacant lots, schoolyards, and other neglected urban spaces all over the City of Philadelphia. With their expertise and UC Green's committed volunteer corps, we will plant approximately 100 new fruit and nut street trees in West and Southwest Philadelphia in the Fall of 2011!

MLK Day 2011

2011 MLK Day of Service at Bartram's Garden

For the third consecutive year UC Green has partnered with Bartram's Garden to honor the memory of Martin Luther King Jr. by participating in the nation day of service. This year, despite bitter cold, we managed to:

  • engage and cultivate a diverse group of 108 volunteers;
  • remove more than 2 tons of invasive plant debris from local Schuylkill River wetlands.

Thanks to everyone who helped make the 16th Annual Day of Service a success!
